What is Free Rangers?

Free Rangers is a nursery/pre-school that is going to open in a beautiful barn in Welton, Midsomer Norton. The interior of the barn has been specifically and exclusively designed with pre-schoolers and babies in mind, in other words this isn't an office or home conversion, it will be renovated to best suit the demands of little people! The interior environment will provide children with a stimulating, comfortable and above all safe place in which to learn.

How are we different?
We are lucky enough to have an extensive outside play area (nearly 20 acres) and access to woodland nearby.

Aside from meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Free Rangers is going to be a Forest School Nursery. Many people we meet ask the question, “What actually is a Forest School?”

Forest School originated in Scandanavia in the 1950’s and has been an integral part of their education in Denmark since the 1980’s. The concept of Forest School is still relatively new to Britain and is developing in many local authorities.

As a forest school nursery Free Rangers would encourage and inspire children to learn through positive outdoor experiences. Forest school sessions will be built into the curriculum thus enabling each child to experience first hand the great outdoors. The age appropriate activities will be planned carefully resulting in the children developing physically and socially.

Research has shown that children who regularly experience Forest School learn about risk taking, problem solving and co-operating. We have seen how the most challenging child “ in the classroom” has developed tremendously overtime in a Forest School setting becoming much more self aware. They have acquired the skills of empathy and communication which they have then transferred to the classroom setting resulting a more confident and happy child.
